Our Commitment to Family Support
Fife Gingerbread will continue to deliver high-quality family support services across Fife for lone parents and families in need. Our mission is deeply rooted in tackling child poverty, providing both short-term solutions for families in immediate need and long-term strategies to address systemic challenges.
We know that simply responding to needs isn't enough. Too often, systems meant to support families actually trap them in cycles of poverty and trauma. That’s why we’re dedicating 20% of our time and resources to influencing to challenge and change these systems. Our goal is to address the root causes of the issues affecting families, ultimately driving long-lasting change.

At Fife Gingerbread, we are passionate about supporting families and making lasting change. In 2024 we embarked on a stargazing journey of reflection and growth, engaging with our board, staff, volunteers, and parents to consider where we are now and where we want to be. This process has helped us define our priorities for the near future and beyond.

Our Manifesto for Change
To truly make a difference, we believe that transformational systems change is essential and we have identified five key areas where we will advocate for families:
Multiyear Funding for Third Sector Organisations: Stable, long-term funding is critical to providing person-led, holistic family support services.
Lone Parent Positive Workplaces: We want to see workplaces designed to meet the needs of lone parents, unlocking a pool of untapped talent.
Transforming Child Maintenance: We are campaigning for a system that guarantees fair financial support for children from separated parents.
Housing Security: Every child deserves a safe, warm home. We are advocating for solutions to Scotland’s housing crisis.
Cost of the School Day: Poverty-proofing schools to remove barriers and stigma is essential to helping children thrive.
To bring this vision to life, we are committed to engaging with decision-makers, raising awareness and using our collective voice to inspire change. We will work collaboratively with both local and national partners to achieve this.

What’s Next?
As we move forward, we will be developing an implementation plan to help us monitor progress, celebrate achievements, identify challenges, and continue evolving as an organisation.
We will share the next steps of our ‘stargazing journey’ as we move forwards grounded in the belief that we can create better todays and brighter tomorrows for lone parents and families in need.
