Volunteers’ Week 2022

‘It feels good to offer support to those in need, a listening ear can make someone very happy :)’

‘The opportunity to help with fundraising or cooking for tea-time groups with a local charity has been great- it’s so varied!’

We’ve come to the end of Volunteers’ Week 2022 – a huge Gingey hug to all our Fife Gingerbread volunteers, and everyone who gives their own time to help others across all organisations. It’s a wonderful thing to do!

Volunteers offer such a wide range of experience and provide support in all areas of the work we do, they are an integral part of Fife Gingerbread, and we want to let them know how thankful we are that they give their time to help families across Fife.

We’ve asked our volunteers, volunteer co-ordinators and the families they support want to tell you regarding their experience of being part of the Fife Gingerbread family- and if you would like to get involved- please get in touch!

‘Volunteering for me is an opportunity to help others in whatever way I can. I enjoy getting to meet people from all walks of life. It's also a chance for me to become a better listener and develop empathy as I learn about those I am lucky enough to spend time with.’

Our lovely volunteer Sean.

‘Volunteering with Fife Gingerbread has enabled me to build on my confidence and self-esteem -as I had been out of work for a while before this. It has given me a sense of empowerment, inspired me, and given me my self-respect back. Being made to feel included in an organisation again has been fantastic and what is even better is helping other lone parents to feel the same way. It has been an incredible journey which has given me hope for the future.’

Michelle, a volunteer now working for Fife Gingerbread- and she also is a huge part of her local community volunteer team- you are a superstar!

‘I have been a volunteer Coordinator for 8 years now with Fife Gingerbread.  Things have evolved so much since I started but one thing that hasn’t changed - the feeling you get when you see families progressing so much from being so low to thriving in a better place. I have also had volunteers in our project who have been supported and progress onto volunteering which has led them onto securing employment - this makes me a very happy Volunteer Coordinator .  I Hope we can keep changing people’s lives for the better with Fife Gingerbread.  “Better todays and Brighter Tomorrows”'

Sandie- Volunteer Co-Ordinator

‘ Having someone to talk to on the phone or someone to meet for a walk- doesn’t sound like a lot, but it was those little things that I needed. Never felt judged, always felt equal. When you are on your own, to be able to chat about the little things, I feel better. ‘

Louise, parent of two lovely girls who is supported by a volunteer.
